Anna Sakse was a Latvian writer and translator. She also wrote under the names Austra Sēja, Smīns, Trīne Grēciņa and Zane Mežadūja. She was born in a poor family of farmers in Vidzeme, studied teacher and Baltic philology at the University of Riga, but left without completing the diploma. Sakse later worked as a translator and proofreader for various publications.
