The most famous work is the opera "Carmen"in 1857 won the Prix de Rome, a scholarship for gifted art students, and studied in Rome for three years. After returning from Rome, he lived in Paris for the rest of his life. Here he devoted himself to the composition. in 1863 created the opera "Pearl Fishers" (Les Pêcheurs de Perles), while living in Paris he also wrote the suite "L'arlésienne", the piano play "Jeux d'enfants", the romantic opera Djamileh (Djamile?), often considered a precursor to Carmen.Carmen, written in 1875, was based on Prospero Merimè's novel of the same name. The role of Carmen was written for a mezzo-soprano. The opera was initially unsuccessful, but was praised by other composers such as Camille Saint-Saëns, Piotr Tchaikovsky, Claude Debius. Eventually, Carmen became very popular. Unfortunately, the creator of the opera did not have time to properly celebrate the success - just a few months after the premiere, he died of heart disease. Bizet is buried in the Perlaches cemetery in Paris.
