Born on 03.10.1919 in Kareiviskis (Pakruojis district), died on 06.06.1997 in Vilnius.
In 1939 he graduated from Kaunas Gymnasium, studied law at VMU. Joined the underground Komsomol organisation. In 1940 he worked in the editorial office of "Komsomolskaya Pravda". In 1941-44 he spent the years 1941-44 in Russia, he was a war correspondent in the Lithuanian division of the Soviet army. Returning to Lithuania, he worked as a secretary of the Komsomol Central Committee in 1944-46, and from 1946 as an editor of "Jaunimo grety". 1954-59 Secretary of the LRS, Chairman until 1970. 1960-89 Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania, Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR 1962-70, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian SSR from 1975.
