Born on 01 May 1953. 1953 1953 in Pagėgiai, Šilutė district.
Graduated from Šilutė 1st Secondary School, and in 1976 from Vilnius University, where he studied English Philology. After his studies he came to Klaipėda, in 1976-1985 he was a teacher at the city's 22nd Secondary School, and since September 1985 he has been a lecturer of English and Lithuanian literature at the Klaipėda faculties of the Lithuanian Conservatoire. After studying at the Vilnius University postgraduate school in 1988-1990, M. Šidlauskas became a lecturer at Klaipėda University, Doctor of Humanities (1992), Associate Professor (1993). He is one of the most active participants and evaluators of Klaipėda's literary life
