19th century end and 20th century early Lithuanian prose writer, publicist, pioneer of lyrical prose in Lithuania, public figure. Prepared by the village draftsman, 1891-1899. studied at Liepoja high school.
In high school, he got involved in social and political activities, he formed a secret circle, the members of which were Mykolas Blūdžius (later director of the tax department), Peliksas Bugailiškis, Antanas Garmus (doctor and writer), Kazys Gugis (lawyer, one of the founders of "News" in the USA), Antanas Kišonas (pharmacist, LSDP activist in the USA), Ignas Končius (professor), Antanas Murma, Pranas Mažylis (professor), Antanas Rucevičius (writer), R. Pacevičius (chemist), Antanas Purėnas (professor), Kazys Šilinskis-Šilinis, D. Šukevičius , Antanas Žukauskas and others. Wrote and distributed the retraction "Lietuviai ir liteuvaitės".

1900 graduated from Šiauliai Gymnasium and entered the Faculty of Medicine of Dorpat (now Tartu) University. For participation in anti-war student demonstrations, groups and riots in 1901. was expelled from the university.
1901-1902 lived in Šiauliai in 1902. moved to Panevėžys, where his future wife Julija Janulaitytė (1880–1978) worked as a dentist in 1903. proposed the idea and organized the youth edition of the newspaper "Draugas", he planned to turn it into a quarterly literary magazine, but after Vincas Kapsuks took over the management of the organization, he withdrew from it. Contributed to the publication of the newspaper "Darbininkų balsas", edited its 1st and 2nd issues.
in 1904 in the summer he stopped to study literature at the University of Zurich. In Zurich, he wrote perhaps his most significant work - the allegorical tale "Light of Happiness". After the disease worsened, in 1905 returned to Lithuania. In the same year, he went to Zakopane for treatment, during the summers he lived in Lithuania, Niūrony, Rozalim, Kačerginė.
He wrote a lot at that time. in 1907 founded the LSDP county organization in Panevėžys. in 1907 prepared the draft of the first Lithuanian literature and art calendar-almanac. Wrote articles on literature "Žemaitės štyklakai" (1902, published in 1908) "The nettles and fangs of our life" (1905) and others. At the end of the year, he went to Zakopane for treatment again, where he died in his wife's arms.
