1954-1961 studied at the 4th secondary school in Kaunas and at the special music school, where he attended violin and oboe lessons, sang in the boys' choir of the Kaunas Radiophone. in 1961 went to Palanga, finished an eight-year school. He continued his studies at evening school. He had formed a youth pop ensemble with like-minded people. 1962-1965 Worker of Palanga Construction Board. 1965-1976 Studied journalism at Vilnius University. Just before his studies, composer Mikas Vaitkevičius noticed him and invited him to sing in the ensemble "Ritmas", which performed in the night bar "Dainava".
in 1970 became a soloist of the LTSR philharmonic ensemble "Nemunas žiburiai". With this ensemble, the singer toured the entire Soviet Union. in 1973 after the break-up of "Nemunas žiburiam" he joined the ensemble "Nerija" and soon became very popular. in 1976 performed with Miko Suraučius ensemble for one year. 1984-1987 An artist of the union of Vilnius variety ensembles and orchestras, he participated in the variety programs of the Hotel "Lietuva". Since 1987 variety artist of the "Tonas" concert organization, organized original programs, performed in Lithuania and abroad.
in 2012 experienced the first serious health problems. He spent the last three years mostly away from the scene. The last public performance of S. Povilaitis was in 2015. on July 6, when he together with Algirdas Kaušpėdas and others performed the national anthem on the Palanga bridge in the action "National Anthem Around the World"
