Petras Vytautas Paltanavičius ✝

 He had a second name - Peter. Father - pedagogue Saliamonas Paltanavičius. His first music teacher was Juozas Medzikauskas, who taught him to play the violin and accordion, who, like his father, taught at Kruonis elementary school at the time. in 1948 entered the violin class of the Vilnius Conservatory, a year later he was transferred to the composition class of A. Račiūnas, which he graduated in 1954. 1954-1968 worked as the head of the music editorial department of "Vagas" publishing house.The most important works of V. Paltanavičius: the opera "Kryžkelė" (libretto by G. Astrauskas and K. Šilgali, 1967), "Legend of the Sea" (libretto by J. Glinskis, 1983), the cantata "Neuzgesint revolucijus gaisro sparnuoto" (A. Jonyn's words, 1970), symphonic poem "Palangas Juzė" (1960), suite "Vilniaus akvaralės" (1962), concerto for cello and symphony orchestra (1973), etc. He also composed music for a whole series of theater productions, popular songs ("Tau, mano mamyte" (verses by K. Kubilinski) etc.). He was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist (1970).
