Robert John Downey Jr. (born April 4, 1965, Manhattan, New York, USA) is an American actor.
He began his acting career in 1970 at the age of five in his father's film 'Pound'. In 1987, he starred in Less than Zero, which is considered his first critically acclaimed film.
He later starred in The Singing Detective (2003), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), A Scanner Darkly (2006), Gothika (2003), Zodiac (2007) and Tropic Thunder (2008). In 2008, he starred in Iron Man, followed by the sequels Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012) and Iron Man 3 (2013). He also played Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011). He earned $1 billion in 'The Avengers' and 'Iron Man 3'. In The Avengers and The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 2. Forbes magazine named him the highest-paid actor in Hollywood (USD 75 million)[1].
