Walter Bruce Willis was born in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, to David Willis, an American, and Merlin Willis, a German.His father was in the army, but was discharged in 1957 and moved to New Jersey, USA. After briefly studying acting at Montclair State University, he started working in a New York café.
After getting a role in the theatre, he was invited to star in the television series Miami Vice and later in the comedy Moonlight. In 1988, Bruce landed a role in the hit film "Die Hard", followed by the sequels "Die Hard 2", "Die Hard. Revenge with a vengeance". In 1989, he voiced a toddler in "Look Who's Talking" and "Look Who's Talking Again". He also voiced the raccoon RJ in the animated comedy "Over the Fence".
In March 2022, the actor's family announced that Willis would end his acting career due to a diagnosis of aphasia.[2] In February 2023, the actor was diagnosed with incurable dementia.[3]
