Rugilė Barzdziukaitė in 2006 He graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater (LMTA) in cinematography, and in 2008 Bachelor studies in theater direction. 2011-2013 He studied documentary filmmaking at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and obtained an MA in Audiovisual Arts.
Since 2003 actively participates in international seminars, creative workshops, trainings. She taught as a guest lecturer at Turku Art Academy (Finland). 2015-2017 resided at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart (Germany).In her film and theater works, Rugilė Barzdziukaitė explores the tensions between objective and imagined realities. By playfully reflecting on the anthropocentric worldview, the artist raises relevant questions of humanity and man as a species. Rugilė Barzdziukaitė's work is characterized by a specific balance between humor and seriousness, simplicity and intellectuality. The documentary manner of recording phenomena is combined with the well-thought-out structure of the works.
Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė has created seven short and long documentary and feature films, and as a cameraman she has participated in the creation of more than two dozen films. The latest full-length documentary work "Acid Forest" (2018) tells from a bird's eye view about tourists who come to an observation deck installed in a cormorant colony. Seeing a forest burned by bird droppings, people give different assessments of this natural phenomenon. The apocalyptic, but at the same time ironic work shows different cultural reactions and raises confusing moral questions.
In 2010, Rugilė Barzdziukaitė made her debut on the theater stage with the performance "Hipokampas" of refined aesthetics. 2011-2013 together with dramatist Vaiva Grainyte and artist Lina Lapelyte created the modern opera "Good days!". The plot of the opera for ten voices, electronics and piano consists of the thoughts of supermarket cashiers - individual destinies hidden behind an artificial smile and a mask of mechanical service - "Good day!", "Thank you!", "Good day!". In 2019, the artists represented Lithuania at the 58th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art and were awarded the "Golden Lion" with the second joint creative project, the opera-performance "Sun and Sea" (2017).
Rugilė Barzdziukaitė, together with Dovydus Korba, has established the production company of film and theater works "Neon Realism".
