is a Latvian composer and musician who works by combining the influences of academic music, pop music and ethnic music.V. Pūce's father is the director Voldemārs Pūce, his mother is the theater actress Daila Kukaine-Pūce, his older brother is the actor Kaspars Pūce, his sister is Dace, a cello teacher. He lost his parents early. He graduated from the E. Dārziņš special music school (1980) and the Conducting Department of the Latvian State Conservatory (1987). His teachers at the conservatory were Juris Kļaviņš, Ilgvars Matrozis and Mendelis Bašs, he also studied composition there with Paula Dambja, Selgas Mence and Pēteras Plakids.
Already during his studies, he directed the choirs in Aloja (1980-1984) and Ulbrok (1986-1994), as well as the vocal ensemble "Liesma" (1982-1986). From 1986 to 1990, he worked at VPTIS k/n as a vocal genre methodologist.In 1986, he founded the chamber ensemble "Marana", with which he staged programs composed by himself - a cycle of songs with lyrics by Aivars Neibart, the chamber opera "Chess" (1989), the cycle "Visādas drazas" (1991), etc.
In 2006, V. Pūce founded the "Pūce Ethnographic Orchestra", whose music is influenced by ethnic music. He wrote the music for the popular Daile Theater play "Šveiks" (1998). In 2013, the song cycle "Zeme" was written together with Igo, Igo is also the author of its lyrics.
Board member of the Latvian Authors' Association (since 2000). Member of the Latvian Composers Union (2006).Married to musician, later producer and director Daci Pūci. A son, musician Valters Pūce, and a daughter, director Līva Pūce, were born in the marriage.
