Elvis is considered America's 20th century. icon, often referred to as "The King of Rock and Roll" or simply "The King".
Born in Tupelo (Mississippi), but moved to Memphis (Tennessee) with his parents at the age of 13. He started his career in 1956 when he signed to RCA Records and released hits such as "Blue Suede Shoes", "Shake Rattle and Roll", "Tutti Fruti", "Money Honey" and others.
Critics at the time said that the new star could not sing and predicted short-lived success for him. This was a misjudgment, for this untrained baritone with a pleading, insistent timbre had an innate talent for communicating through music.
Most singers of that era were more sophisticated and sang with a string orchestra, while Elvis was supported by electric and bass guitars and drums. His singing featured an operatic emotion that was taken from the blues artists he listened to on African-American radio stations in the 1950s.
In the 1960s, Elvis continued to create hits such as "All Shook Up", "Jailhouse Rock", "One Night". His work was not interrupted by the death of his mother in 1958 and two years of military service.
Elvis Presley (1970)
In order to become even more popular, Elvis Presley began filming in the cinema. At the urging of his manager Tom Parker, Elvis came to Hollywood. It was a huge mistake creatively. Elvis started filming in cheap films with no artistic meaning. Although Elvis was offered the lead role in West Side Story, his producer T. Parker instead chose "Girl Happy", "Harem Holiday", "Paradise, Hawaiian Style" and other worthless tapes. T. Parker was looking for quick money from cheap tapes, the filming of which lasted no more than three weeks, and the author's rights belonged to Elvis' publishing companies.
However, as the film's profitability declined, Elvis returned to singing. In 1968, an exclusive TV show was filmed, in which the new hit "If I Can Dream" sounded. Elvis soon returned to the charts and became popular again. After returning to Memphis, he recorded some of the most famous songs of his life, Suspicious Minds and In The Ghetto.
In the 1980s, especially after his divorce from Priscilla, whom he fell in love with while serving in the army in Germany when she was still 14 years old, Elvis' behavior became erratic. There were rumors of failing health and addiction to prescription drugs.
The Beatles leader J. Lennon said: “We Beatles had hard times too. But the four of us shared the burden. And Elvis was alone. It must have been extremely difficult for him to go through that."
in 1977 On August 16, one of the most famous stars in the history of music died in his luxurious mansion. The cause of Elvis' death was controversial, with diagnoses ranging from a heart attack to a drug overdose. Repeated autopsies and tests were performed to determine the cause of death
