in 1979 graduated from VU Faculty of History and started working at the Faculty of History at the Department of Lithuanian History. in 1987 defended his doctoral thesis "Genesis of Reformation in LDK". in 1990 obtained the pedagogical scientific title of associate professor and was elected dean of the Faculty of History (the position was held for two terms), and in 2002 - Vice-dean of the Faculty of History of VU. in 1993 founded the Department of Theory of History and Cultural History, became its head, and since 2002 started working as a professor of this department. Having prepared an overview of his scientific works "Models of Lithuanian history in the 19th-20th centuries. in historiography" in 2008 passed the habilitation procedure and was granted the pedagogical title of professor in the field of humanities by the resolution of the VU Senate.
