Armenian-Lithuanian artist and composer currently living in Holland. Arutiunian studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. The composer works with hybrid forms of sound, using installation, video art, sculpture and performance media. Sonic contradictions, alternative ways of political and musical structuring, and playful explorations of esoteric or ethnographic history form the hallmarks of his recent work. Using acoustic cosmology, tunings and musical systems of non-Western cultures, as well as extended studies of sound resonance and self-made instruments, the artist works with sound as a method of world-building. With hypnotic and enigmatic forms, Arutiunian's works often question ideas of musical and political interactions. The artist's recent solo exhibitions were presented at the 59th Venice Biennale, Armenian Pavilion, Gharīb (Venice, 2022), Diaphonics at Centrala (Birmingham, 2023) and Incantations at CTM and silent green (Berlin, 2021). Group exhibitions and performances presented at Le Fresnoy and Center Pompidou (Turkuen), 14th Kaunas Biennale, Stedelijk (Amsterdam), documenta 14 Parliament of Bodies (Kassel), Radicants and Slavs and Tatars' Pickle Bar (Paris), Rewire Festival (The Hague) ), at the Contemporary Art Center (Vilnius) and elsewhere.
