He is the first male harpist in Turkey. When its technical development was completed in the 19th century, the harp, which was considered and recognized as a women's instrument and was performed by a few male artists, performs in orchestras and chamber music groups. He also gives concerts with the trio called ArpAnatolia, where he plays the harp together with very old Anatolian instruments such as the sipsi, cura and kaval.
He was born in Balıkesir in 1969. In 1980, he entered the Ankara State Conservatory exams with the desire to play the violin, but harpist Kaysu Doğansoy suggested that he play the harp because he was left-handed. Akyol accepted this suggestion and became a student of Kaysu Doğansay. He was accepted to the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in 1988. He graduated from Ankara State Conservatory in 1989. He is known as the first male harpist in Turkey.
In 1990, he went to Berlin with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (D.A.A.D) and continued his education at the Berlin Music Academy for two years. He was a student of Mariana Schmidt Kriceberg and Regina Herving. He graduated from the Berlin State Music College in 1993. He gave concerts under the baton of well-known orchestra conductors in important festivals and halls around the world. He took part in many concerts as a member of the Mahler Youth Symphony Orchestra until 1996. He gave concerts as a soloist with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, İzmir, Çukurova, Bursa, Eskişehir Symphony Orchestras, Milli Reasürans Chamber Orchestra, Borusan Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Minsk Chamber Orchestra, İstanbul Chamber Orchestra, Academic Capital Chamber Orchestra and Mersin University Chamber Orchestra and other orchestras. Nejat Başeğmezler wrote the Harp Concerto, Orhan Şallıel wrote the Piece for Solo Harp and Violin and Mahir Cetiz wrote Instant Dream for Solo Harp for Akyol. He has two albums, Lyric Harp and Block Flute (November 2004) and Cihat Aşkın’la Harp and Violin (July 2009). In 2009, he took part in a project to have the lyre and other instruments from the Hittite period made and performed like the originals, based on the paintings on Hittite vases. In 2012, he founded a trio called Arpanatolia. He took part in various projects such as Arpanatolia concerts and giving a harp recital at the Yusufeli Dam construction site. The artist continues his duties as the harp group conductor at the Presidential Symphony Orchestra and as an academic at Anadolu University.
