The events of the historical Days of Lithuanian Revival and the birth of the Klaipėda City Choir Society "Aukuras" are one of the many manifestations of the nation's spiritual revival in those years. The initiators of community creation were concerned with bringing together all the choral forces of the city and the Pomeranian region of Western Lithuania, coordinating the activities of adult and children's, youth choirs and ensembles, and supporting new initiatives of choir conductors and music teachers. The founder and chairman of the community, Assoc. Thanks to Robert Varna and her Council, the activities of the association significantly adjusted the planned guidelines, broadened the horizons of activity - the association became the center of the choral movement of the entire Žemaitija and Pomeranian region. To a large extent, as it approaches its 30th anniversary, it has remained so today.
One of the first steps of the "Aukura" community was the establishment of the "Aukuras" men's choir. Later, this choir grew into the mixed choir "Aukuras" (leader Alfonsas Vildžiūnas). The revival wave opened the gates to the world, provided an opportunity to get to know the almost unknown rich musical culture of the Lithuanian diaspora. In the spring of 1989 and later, the association initiated scientific conferences dedicated to the musical culture of Lithuania Minor and Lithuanian emigrants, as well as several concert cycles, assisting the music departments of the Klaipėda faculties of the Lithuanian Conservatory at that time. The conferences were attended by guests from overseas, the son of composer Stasios Šimkus, composer and pianist Algis Šimkus and his wife, his namesake from Australia Vaclovas Šimkus, composer Jeronimas Kačinskas and his wife. We are proud that Professor Jeronimas Kačinskas agreed to be not only an honorary citizen of the city of Klaipėda, but also an honorary member of our "Aukuro" community. And in 2011, on the initiative of the community, a prominent cultural nurturer of the Lithuanian diaspora, editor of "Muzikos žinios", composer Faustas Strolia and his family were invited. On the occasion of his honorable 80th anniversary, a series of events, concerts, meeting evenings, exhibitions organized in the KU library and the Faculty of Arts were organized to commemorate the Stroliai family, Faustus Stroliai was given the title of honorary member of the "Aukuro" community.
During the entire existence of the association, in constant communication with many musicians and organizations abroad, a huge valuable archive of the musical culture of our diaspora was accumulated, which was later handed over to the Klaipėda University Institute of Musicology.
