The group "Kontrabanda" began its musical activity around the 1990s. Having then released three albums, which the band's fans still transcribe from scratched cassettes that travel from hand to hand, "Kontrabanda" is often called the best Lithuanian blues band to this day. After releasing their last album in 1995, "Kontrabanda" was silent for 12 years. Generations changed, fashionable one-day bands appeared and disappeared, and the music of "Kontrabanda" has withstood all the tests of time - it is still listened to today. Her "riffs" are played in basements by young guitarists, and the lyrics are quoted by students. Where is the secret of "Kontrabanda", why even after 12 years young people still sing - "I'm not crazy - I'm just doing my job"? Because "Kontrabanda" has something to say. And knows how.The reputation of the rebels remained untarnished - probably "Kontrabanda" was just lucky, but now it would be difficult to ironize their position: they did not surrender to anyone and did not flirt with anyone. They played for themselves "underground", coming out into the light of day in a partisan manner, disguising themselves with other names and music of other styles (the "Rockefellers" who played funk-latin-bossa nova) - they simply persistently and consistently "did their job". Back then, "Kontrabanda" shocked, now it shocks: what they sang about then is still important today - even more important and poignant today. The current "Kontrabanda" is simply a defiant, even more insolent opposition to the Lithuanian "entertainment business", a blunt money-making machine. Nothing more, nothing less: a slap. And loud.
