The orchestra gathered at the initiative of Arno Mikalkėnas, the founder of the Kaunas Jazz Academy, and Kęstutis Sova, the leader of the Klaipėda Jazz Orchestra, for the Broma Jazz festival, which took place in August of this year. However, the project continues to exist successfully. The orchestra has already performed at the Ariogala Jazz Festival, and now has independently prepared compositions for the VJYP competition.
Ten musicians play in this collective. These are students of the Music Academy of Kaunas Vytautas Grand University (VDU), Klaipėda Stasios Šimkaus Conservatory, LMTA, and students of Kaunas "Saulė" Gymnasium and Skuodas Art School. Most of them come from the Western Lithuania region, having graduated from art and music schools there.
The core of the orchestra consists of members of Klaipėda Jazz Orchestra and students of Kaunas Jazz Academy. Many orchestra members actively express themselves in jazz scenes with other collectives.
The Lithuanian Youth Jazz Orchestra prepared an original composition called "Bon Bon Paris" for the final of the VJYP competition. The work was led by orchestra pianist, Austėja Marija Kimbartaitė, who appears on the stage of VJYP as a conductor.
