"Maras rijos" is a new project of already known and loved musicians. The already forgotten Lithuanian word "rija" means wave, and Mara is a chthonic Baltic goddess who takes care of grain fields, animals and the dead, who were believed to have a direct effect on the annual harvest.
The treasure trove of archaic Lithuanian, white songs nurtured by the singer of promotional songs Laurita Peleniūtė is not deconstructed, but subtly embellished with the sounds of classical and exotic instruments.
As you know, cultural experience, language in ancient times was transmitted only by word of mouth, from the old to the young. And the song, traveling through the ages, preserves not the word but the melody. Languages change, nations appear and disappear, but it remains, as if it has been heard a thousand times, sweet to the point of impossibility and reminiscent of home. Sometimes it is similar to the song of distant exotic lands. Not by chance. Our song heritage is our common Indo-European roots.
