History The band was founded in 1976 in Šiluva, Raseiniai district. The group was formed by brothers Alvidas and Gintautas Tautkai. For a long time the group was called the Tautkai brothers' group, or "Provincija" (in those days amateur groups were not allowed to have names) and later, almost officially, it was called "Provincija". When Gintautas was studying at Vilnius Engineering Construction Institute (VISI), the band played several times at various student events.
The name "Rondo" appeared in 1985 and refers to an independent piece of music in which a verse and a chorus are repeated. This was a perfect fit for the song structure of Rondo. "Rondo has grown rapidly in popularity. The whole of Lithuania started singing their songs and in 1984 the State Philharmonic offered Rondo to work on a professional basis. This marked the beginning of a new phase of Rondo's professional music-making, which also marked the band's turn towards a more popular sound for the masses, pop rock. About 1987 Rondo is a vocal instrumental band of Kaunas Territorial Construction Trust.
At the end of 1989 the Tautkai brothers left the band. Alvidas stopped playing. And on Christmas night 1989 Gintautas fell out of the fourth floor window of his house. The man was unconscious for several hours, then recovered in hospital. According to Tautkus, he was disabled at the time, had difficulty walking, and had to endure metal rods in his back because his spine was broken. "Many people who survive such a disaster never get back on their feet again. But I can walk because I prayed deeply and believed in God. My survival is a gift from God," said Tautkus.
The singer admitted that before the accident he did not go to church and never prayed. However, after the incident, when he was on the verge of death, he began to pray and ask the Lord for mercy.
This was a very difficult time of trial for the group. However, the group proved to be quite cohesive and strong enough to carry on. It was necessary to bring in new singers to replace Alvidas and Gintautas, who were not only good musicians and singers, but also good, reliable people. And this happened. New musicians, new singers came together.
During the long years of its existence, Rondo has been voted Lithuania's most popular band many times.
"Bravo awards: in 1993 (as the most popular Lithuanian band) and in 2001 (as the band that made the biggest contribution to Lithuanian musical life).
Rondo won the 3rd place among the 12 most popular Lithuanian artists in 2004 in the music tournament "National Music League" (NML) organised by LNK TV.
"The songs "Eglė mano sesė", "Laukų gėlė", "Cinderella", "Palauk sustok", "Goodbye Eliza", "Rytas perone" and many others are sung by Rondo (and during the time of the Brothers Tautkai Vocal Instrumental Ensemble) together with the band today to audiences of many thousands of people in various Lithuanian cities.
