She is a painter, assemblage, text performance and video artist. Her work is based on a critical approach to the tradition of painting and its discourse, reflections on the identity of the artist and the nature of creation, as well as the highlighting of the feminist construct.
The body is an important material and conceptual material for her work. Barilaitė analyses the limits of her own and other individuals' physical capabilities, as well as the impact of the body as a kind of semantic figure that creates meanings and messages through the slightest gestures, movements and sounds. In her highly performative works with moving images, the artist uses her body to convey messages ranging from eroticism to aggression, from sentimentality to irony. Ideas and images come from the artist's immediate surroundings: childhood memories and adolescent rebellion, maternal concerns and nomadic life experiences, which she combines with art history and pop culture.
