Harp and music composition are the two passions Liucilė U. Vilimaitė cherishes the most. Being born into a family of musicologists and music managers, music has surrounded her since the childhood. Liucilė began playing harp at the age of 7 at the Vilnius Balys Dvarionas music school, where she studied with harpist Galina Jakaitienė and later on with composer Vaida Beinarienė. Already during her first study year she took part in a concert alongside the younger and well-known Lithuanian harpists and thus began her journey into the world of classical music.
After graduating from Vilnius Balys Dvarionas music school Liucilė entered the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague (the Netherlands), where she has successfully obtained a Bachelor’s degree in 2020 under the guidance of acknowledged harpist Ernestine Stoop. In 2022, Liucilė U. Vilimaitė has finished her Master studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and graduated cum laude in the classes of harpists Ernestine Stoop and Sylvain Blassel and composer Trevor Grahl.
Liucilė U. Vilimaitė has played in various concert halls in Lithuania both solo and with an accompaniment of several known Lithuanian orchestras like Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Vilnius St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and others. In 2018 Liucilė participated in a tour around the Netherlands with the famous Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century (Orkest van de 18e eeuw) and was playing in halls like Concertgebouw, De Doelen and others. In August 2021 Liucile gave the premiere of “Epitaphia” for solo harp and string orchestra by an acknowledged Lithuanian composer Algirdas Martinaitis in Tytuvėnai festival together with Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (conducted by Robertas Šervenikas), while in November of the same year she was giving a recital at International Čiurlionis Festival in Vilnius, where she performed works by B. Britten, J. Cage, G. Fauré and A. Ginastera.
Liucile U. Vilimaite has participated in several national and international competitions. In 2010 she received a diploma in the National Lithuanian Balys Dvarionas Piano & String Competition. The same year she won the 3rd place in the Second International Harp Competition in Szeged (Hungary). In 2012, 2014 and 2016 she became a Winner of the National Lithuanian Balys Dvarionas Piano & String Competition. In 2013 m. she won the 1st prize and received Vincitore Assoluto diploma in the V International Music Competition ”Citta di Filadelfia. Premio speciale Paolo Serrao“ (Italy).
In the early teenage hood Liucilė discovered her new passion – music composition. It all began with some harp improvisations and later, at the age of 15 she entered the class of a known Lithuanian composer Vaida Beinarienė. She started her composition chapter with quite a success and in 2014 and 2016 she received diploma and became “The best performer-composer” in the V National Student Composition Contest “Mano nata”, while in 2015 she won the 1st place in the VI National Student Composition Contest “Mano nata”. The same year she also became a Winner of the First Lithuanian Student Contest of Music Composition. In 2018 and 2019 Liucilė was performing her piece “Žalčiai” (“Grass snakes”) with Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (conducted by Modestas Barkauskas and Martynas Stakionis), while in 2022 the harpist-composer was invited to perform “Žalčiai“ and her piece for 6 harps “Trilogija” at World Harp Congress in Cardiff (Wales).
Liucilė U. Vilimaitė is actively performing with the „Harp Sirens“ harp sextet as well. The ensemble was created in 2019 and is playing mainly newly written music. In September 2020 it made its debut in “Gaudeamus” contemporary music festival in Utrecht. In 2021 the ensemble performed in Dutch Harp Festival and premiered Liucilė's composition "Lost in Time", while in 2022 "Harp Sirens" played in World Harp Congress in Cardiff.
Liucilė has a Lyon and Healy harp Style 100 on loan from the collection of The Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation.
