M. Aleksa's musical path began at the ten-year music school of Bali Dvarionas in Vilnius. In 2002-2005, he continued his studies at the Vilnius Juoz Tallat-Kelpšas Conservatory, in 2005-2008. - at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, and in addition, he went to the Berlin Jazz Institute for one semester.
His talents were revealed and noticed very quickly. The performer won prizes at "Tamsta Drum Day", "Baltic Drummer League", "Sony Jazz Stage" and other drummer competitions, played music with the brightest stars of the Lithuanian scene, including Vladimir Tarasov, Liudus Mockūnas, Dmitrij Golovanov, Jan Maksimović, Kęstučius Vaiginis .
The hunger for new experiences and the desire to expand his horizons led Marija to London in 2009, and he successfully entered the UK music scene, participating with various musicians in numerous concert tours and music recordings.
Over the past dozen years, the drummer has appeared in more than 40 countries around the world with such jazz stars as Keyon Harold, China Moses, Dennis Rollins, Anthony Joseph, Femi Temowo, Joe Armon Jones, Ashley Henry, Gilles Peterson's All Star Band, " Grammy winner Bill Laurance, Nubya Garcia, Ben Marc.
In 2019, Mr. Aleksa was selected for the NBLQ (New Band Leaders Quartet) team of jazz musicians to represent England's young jazz generation at one of the most famous jazz festivals in the world, Blue Note At Sea. The drummer also played with international pop music stars - "All Saints", "Blue", Maverick Saber and Maysa Leak.
After returning to Lithuania after spending a decade in London, Marijus opened a Rhythm School in Vilnius, where he teaches people of all ages how to play drums, and started organizing small jazz festivals "Tamsta Jazz Weekend" in the "Tamsta" music club, where his stage partners from various countries come.
M. Aleksa is one of the most intensively creative Lithuanian improvisers. In recent years, a whole string of his albums have appeared. After the debut solo "Maps" (2018), which maneuvers between electronic dance, "world", hip-hop music, afrobeat and "nu-jazz", the second solo "As They Are" (2023) saw the light of day, as well as a "crossover" album . In the latter, the drummer is assisted by a whole bunch of comrades met in various bands and recording sessions.
This year, Marijaus' discography was supplemented with the album "Santaka" recorded with DJ Manfred, which is also the name of the duo of these artists, which has been active since the 2020s. Marija's drums can be heard on many recordings of the British multi-instrumentalist B. Marc, as well as on this artist's latest album "Glass Effect". The drummer is a stable member of keyboardist Bill Laurance's trio, constantly creating projects with other musicians and solo programs, opening unheard drum soundscapes.
