MĀRTIŅŠ FELDMANIS began his career at the Liepāja Theatre, where he worked as a lighting artist from 1991 to 2005. During this time he attended the Seminar for Baltic Theatre Technical Staff held in Copenhagen, and worked at the Gothenburg Opera and elsewhere. Mārtiņš Feldmanis has worked on the lighting design for countless productions at the Daile Theatre, the Latvian National Theatre, the Valmiera Drama Theatre, the Mihail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre, the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre and the Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre in Panevezys. He worked on the Latvian National Opera’s productions of Rusalka, L’elisir d’amore, Antonija #Silmači and Don Paquale. He is a two-time recipient of the Spēlmaņu nakts Latvian Theatre Award for Best Lighting Designer of the Year (2006 and 2017). He has worked on the lighting design for several concerts of varying genres, including projects for the Latvian Radio Choir – Imants Kalniņš and Imants Ziedonis’ oratorio The Poet and the Mermaid (Daile Concert Hall, 2015) – and concerts such as Cage and Time (Cēsis Art Festival, 2017); for the multimedia series Latvia’s Ring for the section Kurzeme’s Ring (2017); for the opera Ainadamar directed by Viesturs Kairišs (Cēsis Art Festival, 2017) and many more. He was also the designer behind the lighting for the Latvian Pavilion at the Expo 2017 Astana.
