Mindaugas Bačkus is a cellist who performs as a soloist, member of ensembles and orchestras. The horizons of his musical interests are extremely wide: from baroque to modern opus, from the traditional sound of the cello to electroacoustic experiments and participation in theater projects.M. Bačkus graduated from the M. K. Čiurlionis National Gymnasium of Arts, then from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, where he obtained the degree of Licentiate of Arts. He also studied at the Royal College of Music in Manchester (Great Britain), improved in master courses in Germany, Holland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The cellist played in the chamber orchestra "Kremerata Baltica", the Lithuanian and Vilnius chamber orchestras, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the string quartet "Chordos", and since 2006 he has been a member of the "Disobedient Ensemble". With these collectives, he participated in festivals in Lithuania, USA, Germany, Austria, Sweden and Norway.After M. Bačkas became the artistic director of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, more than 500 concert programs were prepared with world-renowned performers both in the Klaipėda Concert Hall and in other domestic and foreign halls. On his initiative, the Klaipėda International Cello Festival and Competition was organized in 2017 and 2019, and in 2018 – Klaipėda International Cello Academy. in 2019 M. Bačkas was awarded the title of Master of Culture of Klaipėda.
