Paul Maassen studied piano at the Rotterdam Conservatory and subsequently obtained his Masters degree at the Utrecht Conservatory. In recent years he has been involved as musical director and pianist with Sweeney Todd, Vamos! the Musical, Into the Woods (2nd conductor), Amandla Mandela, Soof! the musical, Pippin (Broadway aan de Amstel) and The Color Purple. For his services to the latter, he has been nominated for a Musical Award 2019. In addition to his activities in music theatre, Paul is a jazz pianist in, among others, the Utrecht ensemble Jazz Archipel. He won the 2nd prize of the Holland Casino Jazz Award in 2007 with his then trio.
He is also the city carillonneur of Breda. A special office, which has been in his family for 4 generations.
