1953-1955 imprisoned in Komiya camps for anti-Soviet activities. After returning to Lithuania, he studied at Vilnius University in 1957-1960, at the Lithuanian Conservatoire in 1963-1969, and in 1977-1983 at the post-graduate course of the Lunacharsky Institute of Theatre Art (Moscow). Candidate of Arts, Doctor of Arts in 1983.
1956-1961 actor at Šiauliai Drama Theatre. 1970-1980 Lithuanian TV director. In 1975 he founded the Novel Theatre at the Artists' Palace in Vilnius and directed there until 1985. Since 1980 lecturer at Klaipėda University (Klaipėda Faculty of Lithuanian Conservatoire until 1991), since 1991 head of the Department of Theatre Pedagogy; since 1986 associate professor, since 2010 professor.
