Ričardas Šumila in 2011 completed post-graduate conducting studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater (class of Prof. G. Rinkevičius), studied at the Vienna University of Music and Visual Arts (prof. U. Lajovicius), improved in master courses (with conductors S. Edwards, J. Carewe, S. Bedford ).
Since 2008 works as an assistant to the chief conductor of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, initiates and creates children's programs. He also worked at the Vilnius City Opera, where he prepared and conducted the operas The Magic Flute, Werther, Svynis Tod – the Demon Barber, Eugene Onegin, Katia Kabanova, Manon Lesko, All of them are like that, Troubadour, Boheme, Tosca, Peleus and Melisande, Faust, The Lady of Spades etc. constructions.
Since 2011 works at J. Naujalis Music Gymnasium, since 2015 teaches opera singing at Vytautas the Great University. Actively works with young orchestra players, initiating creative workshops and preparing various programs (festival Be stogo, Music differently: Petras Vyšniauskas, Music as cinema; directed by A. Stonius).
R. Šumila cooperates with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, Vytautas the Great University Chamber Orchestra, LMTA Symphony Orchestra, Kaunas Music Theater.
in 2014 won the Golden Stage Cross in the category of young artist for the youth opera Jonas and Greta (Vilnius City Opera) produced together with the director Gediminas Šeduikis.
From 2019 R. Šumila is the chief conductor of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
