Robert Schwaighofer was born in Tyrol and lives in Vienna. After completing his training at the German master school for fashion in Munich, he gained experience as an assistant to international costume and stage designers as well as fashion designers such as Christian Lacroix, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Frida Parmeggiani, Axel Manthey and Johan Engels in productions by Robert Wilson and George Tabori , John Neumeier, Heinz Spoerli, Renato Zanella, Philip Taylor and many others. He works as a costume designer in the genres of opera, ballet, musical, dance and spoken theatre. Since 1998 he has been working with Christian Lacroix on various theater projects and since 2009 as his permanent artistic collaborator. Productions such as »Agrippina«, »Candide« and »Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny« at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, »I Capuleti e i Montecchi« at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, »Adriana Lecouvreur « and »Ezio« at the Frankfurt Opera, »Madama Butterfly« and »La fanciulla del West« at the Hamburg State Opera, »Salome« at the Theater St. Gallen, »Radamisto« at the Theater an der Wien and most recently »Otello« at the Salzburg Easter Festival 2016. This production can also be seen in Dresden as a co-production with the Semperoper in the 2016/17 season. Robert Schwaighofer's most recent work as a costume designer can be seen in the musical production "Evita" directed by Vincent Paterson at the Ronacher in Vienna.
