Theater and film artist, scenographer Sigita Šimkūnaitė (b. 1981) studied architecture, obtained a master's degree in history and theory of architecture at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (2004), and also spent a year interning at Vitus Bering University College in Denmark (2001).
in 2010 she joined the activities of the independent creative group "Operomanija", creating the scenography for William Walton's opera "The Bear" (with Arūnas Paslaičius, directed by Nerijus Petrokas). In cooperation with "Operomanija" in the following years, she created scenography for Jonas Sakalauskas' haiku opera "Sniegas" (choreographer and director Rūta Butkus) and Rūta Vitkauskaitė's nano-opera "About Fire and a Running Man" (director Marija Simona Šimulynaitė). He worked with composer J. Sakalauskas and choreographer Agnija Šeiko on the production of the dance operas "Dykra" (2011) and "Julietos" (2012). Created scenography by choreographers Rūta Butkus ("Lost Eyes", "5g of hope", "New N fairytale", 6th finger, "MII4IIpeoples park"), Petros Lisauskas ("Women's Club"), Agnijos Šeikos ("Dior in Moscow") , Vytis Jankauskas ("Agonies"), Maciejus Kuźmińskis ("I") for dance performances.
The artist made her debut in the Klaipėda State Music Theater with the dance performance "Karmen" (director and choreographer Aušra Krasauskaitė, 2017). Other works at KVMT followed: Giedrius Kuprevičius's opera "Prūsai" (dir. Gediminas Šeduikis, 2018), Mikis Theodorakis' ballet "Zorba the Greek" (chor. Lorca Massine, 2018) and Richard Wagner's opera "The Flying Dutchman" (dir. Dalius Abaris and Gediminas Šeduikis, 2020), for which together with D. Abaris she was nominated for the Golden Stage Cross in the scenography category.
Among her latest works are the scenography of G. B. Pergolesi's opera "Tarnaitė ponia" (directed by Gediminas Šeduikis, 2020) and the naturalistic scenery in the play-travel "Time for no(e)rimui" (director and choreographer Agnija Šeiko), which opened in "Neringos - "Lithuanian Capital of Culture 2021" program of events.
