Vid Veljak was born in 1996 in Rijeka, Croatia, in a family of musicians. He started playing the cello at the age of three with Tatjana Skljarenko, continuing music education at the music school "Ivan Matetic Ronjgov" in Rijeka with Prof. Mauro Šestan later on. In 2011 he became a student of Prof. Valter Dešpalj at the Music Academy Zagreb. He attended classes with famous musicians and pedagogues such as: Giovanni Sollima, Gustavo Tavares, Sylvia Sonteckiyene, Emma Farrand, Valter Dešpalj, David Gregorian etc.
Vid won First Prizes at the international competition "Daleki akordi" in Split, Croatia, in 2009, as well as at the national competition of students of music and dance and the International Cello Competition "Antonio Janigro" in Porec, Croatia, in 2010. In the same year he also won First Prize with his piano trio at the national music competition of chamber music. In 2011 he was absolute winner at the competition "Daleki akordi" in Split. As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed in Croatia, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Sweden.
