born August 13, 1955, Marijampolė, Lithuania) is a prominent Lithuanian jeweler and metal artist, recognized as part of the middle generation of Lithuanian applied artists. He is the son of artist J. Bautrėnas. Bautrėnas graduated from the Lithuanian State Art Institute (now Vilnius Academy of Arts) in 1980.
In 1999, Bautrėnas relocated to the United States, where he continued his artistic career. His creative ideas are rooted in postmodernism, characterized by playful experimentation and conceptual approaches typical of the movement. Bautrėnas is especially known for his work in jewelry and metal art, often exploring the boundaries between fine and applied arts.
Throughout his career, Bautrėnas has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Lithuania and internationally, including notable showcases of Baltic amber jewelry and contemporary metalwork. He has been featured alongside other leading Lithuanian jewelers who, from the late 1970s onward, helped lay the foundation for modern Lithuanian jewelry art. His works are recognized for their fusion of function, form, and decoration, as well as for their innovative use of materials and techniques.
