What is the music of our Baltic countries like today? What surnames ring out when you hear Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian music? What are the contemporary pure instrumental music creators of these countries thinking about? What do we know about ourselves, others and what message do we bring to the world through this music?
The new solo program of concert pianist Eglė Andrejevaitė - 9 TREASURES opens up a "sea of answers" to these questions. Carefully selected 3 composers from each country and their works present unity and differences, individual themes and events before, during and after the regaining of independence of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
Lithuania is represented in this program by the works of the "cautious radical" Giedrias Kuprevičius, the emotional Julius Andrejevs and the "texture sorceress" Žibuoklė Martinaitytė, 20 years apart. The country's history will be echoed by the world-renowned composer Pēteris Vasks, Selga Mence, who presents folk music in the aleatoric style, and Ēriks Ešenvalds, a choral music creator who is particularly well-known among composers of the younger generation. The restrained, authentic Estonians Arvo Pärt, Urmas Sisask and Tonu Kõrvits will open the possibilities of melodies and harmonies while living (human) life, expanding the horizon, reflecting the stars and constellations.
The program was created by order of the new music festival "New Music Encounters Plus 2023". World premiere under the name The Baltic Amber: 2023 in November on the 30th Brno, Czech Republic.
