The establishment of a museum in Palanga was discussed as early as the 20th century. pr., when in 1907 July 27 "Friends of Palanga Society" was founded. Its founders were the brothers Counts Feliksas and Aleksandras Tiškevičiai (1864–1945), professors Janas Ptazyckis from Petersburg and Vytoldas Vroblevskis from Warsaw, doctors Tadeusz Zahorskis from Vilnius and J. Jokiel from Lodz, as well as lawyer Oskars Szeller from Warsaw. At the beginning, the society had 32 members, later - about 200. The goal is the development of health, medicine and culture. "Friends of Palanga Society" in 1913. published a publication describing the valuable species of wild plants characteristic of the Palanga region. Dr. was also published in Poznań. Stanisławs Karvowski's book in Polish "Palanga and Kretinga" (Połąga i Kretynga), which reveals in detail not only the history of the region, but also the construction of the pier. 20th century Ave. in the press, called to collect exhibits for the future museum in Palanga. However, the museum was not established at that time.
The initiative of local history societies and the idea of establishing a museum in Palanga was renewed only in 1964, when the statutes of the local history societies of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (LTSR) were adopted. The societies operating in various cities of Lithuania, while developing their active activities, sought to establish ethnographic museums. in 1966 The Palanga branch of the LTSR Local History Society was established in the Palanga Executive Committee. Lithuanian pedagogue Emilija Adiklienė (1906–1993) was appointed as the chairperson.
Local historians from Palangska organized the Monuments Protection Fund, compiled a list of the city's cultural monuments, a map, organized the writing of annals of the activities of collectives and employees, collected memoirs of fallen Soviet soldiers, described local crafts, compiled folders-biographies of famous people of Palanga, and recorded examples of folklore. Public exhibitions are held every year. During the first exhibition, in 1969 on February 28, expectations were expressed regarding the establishment of the museum, allocation of museum premises for the storage of exhibits. in 1970 193 exhibits were collected, many thematic folders were prepared, and the description of the old Palanga homesteads began. in 1971 collected more than 500 exhibits. in 1973 it was decided to organize the establishment of a public museum. in 1977 E. Adiklienė gave up the position of chairperson and started organizing expeditions on her own, where she continued to explore the old Palanga homesteads. The city authorities, without making a decision to establish a museum, all collected exhibits in 1982. handed over to the then Museum of History and Ethnography of the Lithuanian SSR (now the National Museum of Lithuania).in 2008 May 30 The conference "Palanga's cultural heritage: to be or not to be?" was held in the public library of Palanga City Municipality. This conference discussed the need to establish a Palanga regional museum.
in 2011 October 19 The second conference was held in the public library of Palanga city municipality, during which a resolution was adopted, the most important and necessary first steps for the establishment of the resort museum were written down. In the first point, it is recommended to call the established museum not the Palanga region museum, but the Palanga resort museum. And so, a whole century has passed since the beginning of the vision of creating the museum, in 2013. August 29 The municipal council of the city of Palanga made the final decision to establish the museum of the Palanga resort. It is located in the historical villa "Annapilis". The first director of the museum was Palanga historian, coordinator of various archaeological expeditions, head of underwater heritage research expeditions, Jūratis Viktoras Liachovičius (1946–2017).
Palanga Resort Museum is currently an important multi-functional center that preserves, researches and represents museum values, a significant collection of Palanga's visual heritage, cultural values found in the city of Palanga during archaeological research. The collections of archeology, history, photography, numismatics, phaleristics, philately, art, the Palanga Local History Society, and private collections are formed in the museum's funds.in 2016 the modernized museum organizes contemporary and historical Lithuanian and foreign exhibitions, meetings with authors, history and culture researchers, educational activities, conferences, lectures, film screenings, concerts and other entertainment activities. Every year, the museum hosts the traditional Museum Night events, the city's festivities - Palanga Days are bustling, the art exhibition "White Shroud", the poetry competition "Haiku Palangai", the exhibition from private collections "Palanga. Reflections of history".
And although almost a century has passed since the beginning of the vision of creating a museum of the Palanga region, Palanga can be happy that after a long search for where the museum should be located, a decision was made to place it in the villa "Anapilis", which has historical significance for the resort. in 2013 The Municipal Council of the city of Palanga approved the establishment of the Palanga Resort Museum and its regulations. in 2014 at the beginning, museum workers started working in the museum.
