Gediminas Astrauskas ✝

Born on 12 June 1932 in Pušalot, Pasvalys district. Died 10 November 2008 in Vilnius.

Studied Russian language and literature at Vilnius University. After graduation he taught at Kaunas Polytechnic Institute and Vilnius Pedagogical Institute, worked in the editorial offices of "Sporto", "Nemunas", "Šluota" (since 1983), and on television.

In his youth he devoted a lot of time to professional sports - 16 times he was the champion of the republic and the record holder in 800, 1000 and 1500 metres running distances.

He was also a translator, translating works by V. Mayakovsky, other Russian, Ukrainian, Latvian, Bulgarian and German poets...
