Alis Balbierius

Born on 01.10.1954 in Šlepščiai, Biržai district.
In 1973 he graduated from secondary school in Biržai, studied biology at the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute (now the Lithuanian University of Education).In 1978-1981 he worked as a research assistant at the Kaunas Tadas Ivanauskas Museum of Zoology in Vente Cape, in the State Nature Conservation Committee. 1982-1992 Correspondent of the newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda", editor of the "Viltis" section. 1992-1993 Editor of the weekly "Literature and Art". 1993-1996 Correspondent and editor of the newspapers "Valstiečių laikraštis", "Vilniaus tribūna", "Gimtasis kraštas". Photographer. Has held over 30 solo photography exhibitions, participated in international plein air and group exhibitions. He is a member of the Lithuanian Union of Photographers, the Lithuanian Ornithological Society, and the Chairman of the Nature Photography Foundation. He has published a number of articles in the press on the topics of nature conservation, culture and photography. He is actively involved in the Lithuanian Green Movement. He has published poetry in the almanacs "Poezijos pavasaris", "Žiemos žodžiai", "Žiema ir mirtis", and poetry collections. Lives and works in Biržai. He is interested in the culture of the Far East and often travels in India.
