Born on 16 May 1935 in Plikiškiai, Anykščiai district.
He attended Mikierius Primary School, Šimoniai Pro-Gymnasium, and in 1951-1955 he attended Ukmergė Teachers' Seminary. From 1955-1959 he studied Lithuanian language and literature at the Vilnius Pedagogical Institute (now the Lithuanian Educational University), from 1973-1976 he studied journalism at Vilnius University. From 1957-1958 he was a literary employee of the magazine "Švyturys", from 1958-1962 he was the head of the Literature and Art Department of the newspaper "Komsomolskaya pravda". 1959-1973 - member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania. 1962-1963 Head of the Literature and Art Department of the magazine "Moksleivis". 1963-1965 - Employee of the Central Committee of the Latvian Communist Party of Lithuania. 1965-1966 Editor-in-Chief of the magazine "Moksleivis". 1967-1972 Editor-in-Chief of the magazine "Nemunas". 1971-1974 Secretary of the Kaunas Branch of the LSSR Writers' Union, 1975-1985 Literary Consultant of the Writers' Union, 1970-1990 Member of the Board. 1985-1989 Editor-in-Chief of the weekly "Literatūra ir menas". 1992-1995 Editor-in-Chief of the State Publishing Centre, 1995-2005 Head of the publishing house "Džiugas", publisher of the publishing houses "Margi raštai", "Ardor". His poems were based on his poems, and his work is actively published in various collections, almanacs and anthologies.
