Italian journalist and writer. He became famous with the literary tale "The Adventures of Cipolino" (1951).J. Rodaris was born in the small town of Omena in Northern Italy, in the family of a baker. Father died when Giannis was 10. Two more brothers, Cezar and Marijo, remained orphans.As a child, he was weak and sick, so instead of playing with his peers, he often chose reading and learned to play the violin. Already in his early teens, he read the works of Nietzsche and Schopenhauer. He also read the works of Lenin and Trotsky. At the age of 17, after three academic years at the seminary, he began teaching in rural schools. Since 1939 studied for some time at the Faculty of Philology at the University of Milan.Due to poor health, J. Rodaris was released from military service. At the beginning of the Second World War, he joined the fascist party. However, after the death of two close friends and the sending of his brother Caesar to a concentration camp, he began to participate in the resistance and in 1944 joined the Italian Communist Party.
