Ulvi Cemal Erkin was a Turkish composer born on March 14, 1906. He was one of the pioneers of contemporary classical music in Turkey, and is best known for his orchestral works such as Köçekçe and Symphonic Poem 1919. He studied abroad in Paris, and later returned to Turkey to teach at the Ankara State Conservatory. He passed away on September 29, 1972.
