Lithuanian poet who wrote in French.
He was born in the Čerėja estate (now the territory of Belarus), in a noble family. The parents, an officer descended from Lithuanian nobility and the daughter of a Polish Jew, lived unmarried for a long time due to the opposition and contempt of the father's family. Oscar in 1889 his father took him to study at the Lycée Johnson de Saji in Paris, because he wanted his son to get a proper French education. After graduating from the lyceum, he studied Eastern languages, including Hebrew. His spoken and written French was equal to that of the 18th century. for the language of French encyclopedists. In addition, he learned several European languages, which he spoke fluently. Later he actively traveled around Europe.
1920 was appointed the first envoy of the Independent State of Lithuania to France, represented Lithuania's interests in the League of Nations and became the most active promoter of Lithuanian culture in Western Europe. Milashius was an active translator, from S. Daukant, A. Baranauskas and others. prepared two collections of fairy tales "Old Lithuanian Tales and Tales" (1930) and "My Aunt's Tales" (1938).
Milašius died in Fontainebleau in 1939.
