doctor of philosophy, social worker, tennis referee.Studied at the 23rd secondary school in Vilnius. He completed bachelor's and master's studies in philosophy at Vilnius University. He obtained a master's degree in philosophy (MPhil) from the Central European University (CEU).
in 2006 the scientist defended his doctoral thesis at Vilnius University and since then works at the Department of History of Philosophy and Analytical Philosophy of VU (previously known as the Department of History of Philosophy and Logic). 2018-2023 worked as the director of the VU Institute of Philosophy. in 2023 Jonas Dagys took up the position of dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at VU.In addition to academic work, Jonas Dagys also participates in various philosophical organizations and activities. For several years in a row, he has been a member of commissions of several Lithuanian philosophical associations (and other organizations). Since 2013 Jonas Dagys became a member of the board of the Lithuanian Society of Philosophers, and in 2016-2019 was the vice-president of this society during the period.
Jonas Dagys is the first referee of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in Lithuania (1997 – White, 2003 – Bronze, 2010 – Silver badges of the International Tennis Federation). He refereed international tennis tournaments in Lithuania - the President's Cup of the Republic of Lithuania, Vito Gerulaitis memorial tournaments, as well as international tournaments abroad - Wimbledon, Swedish Championship, St. Petersburg, Stockholm ATP series tournaments, as well as Davis Cup matches in Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine.2003-2018 in the period Jonas Dagys was a member of the board of the Lithuanian Tennis Union and the chairman of the panel of judges, and in 2018 became the vice president of this union.
Scientific activityVilnius University philosopher Jonas Dagys has worked as a visiting professor at foreign universities, including Konštantína Filozofa v Nitre University in southwestern Slovakia.The scientist belongs to both professional associations and editorial boards of Lithuanian and foreign scientific journals, such as: journal Problemos (since 2009); journal Philosophica Critica (since 2015).Jonas Dagys has published scientific articles and books on various philosophical topics. Some of his most important works: "Representing Buridan's divided modal propositions in firstorder logic", "Frege's "meaning"", "Analytical philosophy of language and science in Lithuania".
