Alex Lyon is an eclectic, cross-genre musician and composer based in London, specialising in contemporary music and free improvisation on clarinet and bass clarinet. Her solo work blends minimalism and traditional music influences with extended clarinet technique.
She is an adept collaborator and improviser across contemporary classical, and traditional music, shaped by her studies at Sheffield University and Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She has performed at many venues across the UK and Europe, such as Southbank Centre, Philharmonie Luxembourg Kiasma Finland, Kings Place and the Brighton Dome.
As a member of the award-winning global folk collective, Mishra, Alexa first featured on their second album, "Reclaim" (2021), and since then has performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Celtic Connections, and Cambridge Folk Festival, as a clarinettist and vocalist. She also regularly performs and composes with Indian Classical vocalist, Deepa Shakthi.
In the contemporary classical music scene, Alexa works alongside many composers, premiering new works regularly both as a soloist and a member of contemporary classical trio, Terra Invisus. Their debut album ‘Visions’, supported by Help Musicians and The Marchus Trust, was released in April 2024, showcasing work by emerging composers in the UK contemporary music landscape.
