Биография

Andreas Spering is one of Germany’s leading specialists in early music and renowned for his expertise in historically informed performance practice. As of the 2023/24 season Spering has been appointed Chief Conductor of the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra.

Further highlights of this season include the German premiere of Louise Bertin’s Fausto at Aalto Musiktheater Essen and Zauberflöte at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe as well as his return to Gothenburg Symphony and performances with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. Recent engagments took him to Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg, Beethovenorchester Bonn and Brussels Philharmonic as well as to Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg for Zauberflöte and Opéra National de Lorraine Nancy for Nozze di Figaro.

His extensive concert activities have taken him to orchestras such as the Bamberger Symphoniker, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, New Japan Philharmonic, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice as well as the Radio Symphony Orchestras of Hannover, Cologne, Leipzig, Saarbrücken and Munich.

On opera stages Andreas Spering has conducted the great Mozart operas and a number of works by Handel along with Beethoven’s Fidelio and Weber’s Freischütz, in Gothenburg, Copenhagen, Antwerp, Luxembourg, Nantes, Rouen, Hannover, Essen, Nürnberg and Sevilla as well as at the Händelfestspiele Karlsruhe in his tenure as Music Director. The Dutch National Opera Amsterdam saw him in Pierre Audi’s acclaimed production And you must suffer and the Aix-en-Provence Festival in Don Giovanni and La Finta giardiniera.

His great passion is the Viennese Classical period, especially Joseph Haydn. As artistic director of the Brühler Schlosskonzerte, he established the first and only Haydn Festival in Germany, where he conducted over 60 symphonies, the great oratorios and nine operas by this composer with the Capella Augustina founded by him in 2002.

His discography includes several award winning recordings: Le Monde de La Musique for Haydn’s early cantatas (harmonia mundi), Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik for Haydn’s Il ritorno di Tobia (Naxos). A Mozart CD with Sabine Meyer and the Kammerochester Basel (Sony) received great critical acclaim.

His artistic outlook was decisively influenced by Gerd Zacher as well as by Reinhard Goebel and his renowned ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln, of which Spering was a member as harpsichordist for several years.
