Catalina Sandino Moreno (born 19 April 1981 in Bogotá, Colombia) is a Colombian actress and Academy Award nominee.
Biography
Catalina Sandino Moreno was born in the Colombian capital to a veterinarian and a pathologist-anatomist[1]. She graduated in 2000 from St. John's University in Bogota. She graduated from St George's School in 2000 and then studied at the private Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota. In 2004, after completing an acting course at the Rubén Di Pietro School, she moved to New York[2]. In the same year, Catalina took part in the screening of Mary, Full of Grace. Out of the 900 girls who auditioned, Catalina got the leading role. Her first film role was a success for the actress. She became the first Colombian to be nominated for an Academy Award, the Oscar, in 2005.
She met photographer David Michael Elwell on the set and married him on 15 April 2005. The wedding ceremony took place in Cartagena[3].
The actress' sudden popularity made her in great demand in Hollywood. Her next roles were in the films I Love You, Paris (2006), Fast Food Nation (2006) and the biographical drama Che (2008), in which Catalina played the Cuban revolutionary Aleida Marcha.
