He was born in a family of musical parents - his parents sang in the ensemble "Sūduva" of the Lithuanian House of Culture in Punsk and in the choir "Dzūkija". Darius Zimnickas attended Punsk Lyceum, studied piano at Suwalki Music School. In his native Punsk, he organized the instrumental ensemble "Šešupė", which participated in the Lithuanian television competition "Dainų dainelė" and became a laureate.
1993-1997 D.Zinickas studied at the Vilnius Juoz Tallat-Kelpša Conservatory, later enrolled to study choral conducting at the Frederic Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, prof. In Rishard Zimak's class. in 2002 He won the third place in the Polish Young Conductors Competition, and was offered to stay and teach at the Warsaw University of Music. At the same time, I had to work as an assistant conductor of the mixed choir of this high school. 2002-2004 worked as an assistant conductor at the Chamber Opera in Warsaw, he was awarded a scholarship by the Polish Minister of Culture. 2003-2006 was elected chairman of the Polish Lithuanian Youth Union. in 2009 defended his thesis and became a Doctor of Arts, appointed secretary of the Department of Choral Conducting at the University.
Since 2004 leads the church choir of the Warsaw Archcathedral, which sings during services and other religious events. This is an amateur mixed choir, in the Polish competition "Caecilianum" in 2004. winning the third place, and in 2005 victorious in it. in 2010 In Gniezno, this musical ensemble won the Grand Prix at the All-Polish Choir Competition "Ars Liturgica".Choir of the Warsaw Polytechnic with its director in 2010.
