Palanga's "Rough" Theatre was founded in 1993 by director Virginijus Milinis, using one of the theatre concepts of the English experimental director Peter Brook and with the help of the then head of the cultural centre, Danuta Mukienė. The amateur theatre tested its creative powers by staging works of the most diverse genres, eras and authors. The director does this deliberately, wanting to avoid stage clichés and not to form the roles of the actors. It is difficult to attribute theatre to any one direction. One of its features is highlighted in one performance, and another in another. The closest to this collective are farce, satire, comedy. Here is what theater director Ramūnas Abukevičius writes about the “Grubius” theater after the regional tour of the XXIII Lithuanian Adult Theaters Review – Festival “Reflections” in the Jurbarkas Cultural Center: Palanga’s “Grubius” theater took on J. M. Sing’s play “Šaunuolis iš vakaų kėstis”, directed by Virginijus Milinis. The theater is unique, with a unique directorial style, a troupe of excellent actors. Meeting this theater is always intriguing, they never leave the audience indifferent and cause a whole storm of the most controversial assessments, but this is one of the strongest theaters in Lithuania. This meeting did not disappoint either. The actors create a performance radiating the Irish spirit, the characters are bright and suggestive, the story is told clearly and playfully. The circumstances given by the author become interesting and intriguing thanks to the director’s decisions and acting adaptations.” The "Grubusis" theatre participated in the following events: amateur theatre reviews "Reflections" (in 1996, the final "Reflections" festival at the Lithuanian National Theatre with N. Gogol's "The Marriage"), "Nougne graži Žemaitėjė" in Telšiai, the comedy festival "Cha…cha…'' in Telšiai, "Vėinė jouka'' in Kretinga, the international festival "Aidas - 97; 99; 2001" in Jonava, "Lietuva iuokiasi - 96" in Vilnius, "Kaukutis - 98" in Kretinga, the festival dedicated to the fifth anniversary of Klaipėda University, the events of the 100th anniversary of B.
