Since 2023, Saulius Bartulis, the long-time artistic director and cellist of the Kaunas String Quartet, has formed a new quartet, which is called the DIUKOS Quartet.
Saulius Bartulis in 1976 graduated from Juozas Naujalis secondary art school in Kaunas, 1982. graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, 1992. improved at international "Amadeus" quartet master courses in London. Since 1988 until 2023 - Art director of the Kaunas String Quartet.
This collective was one of the most important classical music ensembles in Kaunas. During the years of its existence, the ensemble held over 2,700 concerts in a number of countries and festivals in Lithuania, represented the high culture of Lithuanian chamber music abroad (in Finland, Norway, Poland, Russia, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Argentina, Chile, Denmark, Ukraine , Luxembourg, Netherlands).
Over the course of 40 years, the quartet has accumulated more than 500 pieces in its repertoire - from classics and 19th and 20th century music. composers up to modern opus, performed many premieres of works by Lithuanian authors, especially composers from Kaunas, with whom he collaborated for many years. in 2008 for the popularization of contemporary music, Kaunas String Quartet was awarded the "True Music" award of the year, 2009. for promoting the music of Lithuanian composers in Lithuania and abroad, the ensemble was declared "The Most Memorable Creative Collective of Kaunas", and in 2012 for merits to Lithuanian culture and art, the quartet was awarded the prize of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Kaunas String Quartet was regularly invited to record music for films and theater performances. The ensemble has recorded many works for the Lithuanian National Radio Fund, releasing 14 CDs.
