He studied violin and viola with J. Polischansky. He played in M. Pameris's dance orchestra, later in J. F. K. Lanner's string quartet (from 1824 a string orchestra), became J. F. K. Lanner's assistant. In 1825 he founded his own orchestra, began composing music, and became one of the most popular composers of dance music in Vienna. From 1846 he was the music director of the Vienna Palace banquets. He toured Europe.
