was born in Vilnius, in a family of famous musicians. The future creative personality of the pianist was shaped by pedagogues Edmundas Gedgaudas (M.K. Čiurlionis National School of Arts), pianist's father prof. Jurgis Karnavičius (Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre), prof. Lev Naumov (assistant-internship at the P. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow). J. Karnavičius won awards at the inter-republican competition of M. K. Čiurlionis in Vilnius (1978, 1st prize) and international competitions in Germany, Austria, USA, Italy.
His repertoire includes piano music of various styles; the main focus is on the works of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, French authors. The pianist plays solo, with various orchestras, actively collaborates with various chamber ensembles, and is a regular concert partner of his wife, singer Sigutė Stonytė. For the past several years, J. Karnavičius has been regularly participating in the programs of "Gaida Ensemble". Toured various European countries, USA, Canada and Korea. J. Karnavičius is also a professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, who has trained several laureates of international competitions, and since 2011 he has been the head of the LMTA piano department. The pianist participates in the evaluation commissions of various competitions, conducts interpretation seminars in Lithuania and master-classes abroad.
