Marija Petraitytė is a Lithuanian fashion and costume designer known for her experimental, sculptural collections and unique approach to clothing construction. She graduated with a BA in Fashion Design from Vilnius Academy of Arts and a BA in Sustainable Fashion Design from Copenhagen School of Design and Technology. Petraitytė focuses on experiments in shapes, cuts and textures, and sees clothing as a wearable sculpture – her works often use natural, organic motifs, transformable details and expressive lines. Her work often intertwines historical costume details with futuristic accents, making the garments not only functional, but also visually impressive.
Petraitytė’s collections are characterized by transformable, easily modifiable details, symbols and organic forms. One of her most famous collections is “Distance from a Point”, in which the designer explored themes of self-analysis and creative growth, using symbols of a spiral, tunnel and vortex.
Petraitytė also presented her costume exhibition "Residents of the Saman Country", in which she exhibited unique, nature-inspired costumes. She actively participates in fashion and art projects in Europe, striving to combine creativity with sustainability and shape a contemporary avant-garde approach to fashion.
